Roundup Another
year has now drifted by and I’ve listed
below some of the major events that occurred during the past year. The
World No.1 Ranking has passed from Lee Westwood
to another Englishman, Luke Donald and again, the best player in the
world has
yet to win a Major. But there is no
doubting Luke’s claim to the top spot, as his consistency has
been amazing and
he became the 1st player ever to be the top earner on both
the US
and European Tours - an incredible feat. The
USA finally got on the Majors winners list again
with a win at the US PGA by rookie Keegan Bradley.
And he became the 1st player to
win a Major using a “belly putter”. So
don’t be ashamed (as
I was for years!)
to try one if you’re having problems on
the greens. Northern
Ireland continued to produce not one but
two Major winners in 2011 – surely now the golfing country of the
World! The
European professional womens team beat the USA
for the Solheim Cup and the Mens GB & I team played and beat the
USA for
the Walker Cup. But
after 2 years without a win, a certain Mr T
Woods finally won again – admittedly a limited field event, The
Chevron World
Challenge – but nonetheless, a win and leaping from 52 to 21st
in
the World, could this be the spur to greater deeds in 2012? Time will tell.
