Golf Roundup All
change at the top. At
the end of the year a new No.1 was crowned and
not without a little controversy. Lee
Westwood hit the giddy heights of being the best player in the world
without
having won a Major. Anyone doubting
Westwood’s credentials should take a look at his record and
nobody has played
more consistently than he has and justifiably earns his place in
history. Towards
the end of the year Phil Mickelson had a
number of opportunities to become No.1 but was not able to play well
enough to
gain the top spot, so a very well done to
the 37 year old from Nottinghamshire, England. With
Europe taking the Ryder Cup, Martin Kaymer of
Germany winning the US PGA and Graham
McDowell of N.Ireland winning the US Open, Bernhard Langer, also from
Germany,
winning both the British and US senior Opens, it was a fantastic year
for
European golf. There were many who also
thought that Rory McIlroy from N. Ireland had the better of Rickie
Fowler for
the US PGA Tour Rookie award, but it was not to be.
